88-day calculator
For your 2nd or 3rd Working Holiday visa (417 or 462). Add your payslips one by one and see your days add up.
Official list last changed 5 Apr 2025 · checked 19 Oct 2026Which visa are you applying for?
Optional. Only work done on your 2nd visa counts for a 3rd, so this lets us flag payslips from your 1st visa. It's the day the visa was granted if you were in Australia, or the day you entered Australia on it if you were overseas.
Your visa type
Not sure which one?
It's on your visa grant letter. 417 is for passports like the UK, Ireland, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the Nordic countries. 462 is for passports like the USA, China, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Israel and Poland.

38 hours = 7 days (a normal full week, weekend included). A payslip can't count more days than its dates. Extra hours only fill weeks with no payslip, such as a week off. A month can't count more days than it has. Only jobs in a listed postcode count.

What work did you do there?
From each payslip: the dates it covers and the total hours. Include paid sick days and public holidays.

How it counts
- Start with the postcode and the work you did. Only work in a listed postcode counts, and only for the work types listed there.
- Then add your payslips: dates and hours. Casual is fine.
- 38 hours = 7 days. A normal full week counts the whole week, weekend included. Fewer hours count less.
- A payslip can't count more days than its dates. 120 hours on a fortnightly payslip is still 14 days. Extra hours only fill a week with no payslip, like a week off on a roster.
- A month can't count more days than it has. Extra hours don't carry over.
- Long shifts and weeks off: 7 × 12-hour shifts (84 hours) covers a fortnight, so a week off between shutdowns in the same month is covered.
- Paid sick days and public holidays count. Unpaid days off don't. You can't finish in less than 88 (or 179) calendar days.
The official rule
“…you must complete the same number of normal work days or shifts as a full-time employee in that role and industry would normally work in a 3 month (88 calendar day) or 6 month (179 calendar day) period.”
Department of Home Affairs, “How to count specified work” (checked October 2026)Home Affairs counts days or shifts. Payslips show hours, so this calculator turns hours into days: 38 hours = 7 days. It's an estimate, not a decision on your case. Read the full rules.
